This magical event was initially a collaboration between Evelyn Roth, a world-renowned artist (evelynroth.com) and Hannelore (a Vancouver based artist who recently passed away) back in the 1970's. This salmon was her very first inflatable she created. Hannelore created the design for the costumes and she wrote and performed the backtrack. Evelyn, her husband John, a friend Steve and myself, travelled to Old Massett to recreate this piece. We rehearsed in Old Massett in Christian White's beautiful long house. We had a dress rehearsal on the grounds outside the long house before we took it to the Edge of the World Festival in August 2011. Evelyn Roth, a world-renowned artist (evelynroth.com). Evelyn created her first infatable (a salmon). This was in 1977 when she and her good friend Hanna Lore were based in Old Massett Haidia Gwaii. We stayed in Jim Hart's beautiful long house and were made to feel very welcome by the Haidia. I was honored to travel with Evelyn back to where the Salmon Dance was born to create this performance. Evelyn donated the salmon to the Haidia community as a gift
