This film was sent to me by Geoffrey MacLean, from his family's collection of early 8mm films shot in Trinidad during WW2. This film depicts Carnival time, most likely at Skinner Park in San Fernando. It appears unlike most other old carnival films that I have seen in that it consists mainly of floats, set up on what appears to be oil company lorries. Also, most of the participants are white so perhaps this is a Trinidad Leaseholds carnival entry. The costumes are quite elaborate, fashioned after American, British and Canadian iconic figures however there are none of the wild and garish "mas" costumes so evident in Trinidad carnival. In fact, as far as carnival goes, this affair seems quite sedate. I'm quite sure that tea and cakes were served afterwards!
