Jerry Saltz speaks at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis on October 6, 2010, as part of its Susan Sherman Annual Distinguished Speaker Series on "The Good, The Bad, and the Very Bad: A Year in the Life of an Art Critic." Jerry Saltz is a Columnist and Senior Art Critic for New York magazine; Judge on Bravo's hit reality TV show, "Work of Art: The Next Great Artist," and thrice-nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. As an energetic and persuasive voice in the art world for over two decades he is widely considered to be one of America's premier art critics.
The Susan Sherman Annual Distinguished Speaker Sereies is designed to bring scholarship and art commentary of the highest caliber to St. Louis. Past speakers have included Glenn Lowry, Michael Kimmelman, Jeff Rosenheim, and Maya Lin.
Jerry Saltz has one of the best track records of picking great artists of our time, before most people. If a critic choice is not correct, then why is irrelevant. Jerry Saltz why, is what art makes him “feel” the thinking is unconscious. Artists chose to express their thoughts with in images, not with words (or critic words). You can’t learn art if you are not born with it, no one can teach you. The visual journey, and education then will help you. Jerry was born with it.

wow... this host is an idiot. It's no wonder he's excited to learn from this "art critic"
Wouldn't an art critic be someone with such a strong sense of proportion, negative space, relationships, color, and mediums that they would be able to create something?

Im tired of all these sissy, pseudo intellectual, phony, opinionated, fag ass, new york art worms. These people make me sick. Their talents are grotesque, soulless, and desperate. Why is their opinion worth anything??? All they have is their critique. This prissy slant sucked cock all the way to the top of his field. He needs to work the rice fields, eat raman noodles for a while and bring him back down--be more salt of the earth. I like artists and creators, but not these parasites
