This is so heartbreaking and terrible it's unimaginable. The suffering was dreadful, and so unfair, so very sad.

All respect to these poor people of ireland, terrible terrible holocaust.

Thanks josparkes1 for your comment. In my judgement, it is through making more folk aware of such suffering in the past that we may contribute towards there being less of it in the future, although to listen to the news each day does not always give us this confirmation.

question: I am an American. My people on both sides of the family came over in coffin ships in the 1840s. Where would people this poor even get the money for ship fare. So many poor Irish came to the USA......I have always wondered how they scraped up the money to even get here

I come from a part of Ontario where there are probably more irish names of towns and in church yards here and in neighbouring Quebec than anywhere outside of ireland. Irish & Scots refuges from the famine, from oppression and from religious persecution settled this area and built the farms,villages,railways, canals and logging industry. We visited the memorial a year ago when we were in ireland on vacation. there are no words to adequately describe it or the famine. none do it justice.

there was a Famine in 1700's Ireland. From years of constant bad weather the potato crop failed & caused the deaths of 4000,000 people.
