I gotta say, I'm a big fan of Keith, but George Orwell was a socialist (Trotskyist) who wrote _Animal Farm_ and _1984_ as warnings *against* the kind of authoritarianism characterized, for instance, by Stalinism. He also wrote an influential essay on "Politics and the English Language"
