@BabyELimited: It's very difficult for female singers that have REAL talent in today's music business. It should be about talent but it often times is not! It's about boobs and body. They fix your voice in AutoTune, Logic etc. so if you can't hit the notes, it's no problem. I'm a singer and it just makes me sick that all of these things are going on today.
Mary Wells is great in these post-Motown classic gems and for shame Mary Wells was blacklisted from the airwaves resulting in a life time of stress for a talented soulful lady who deserved better and now a whole new audience can finally enjoy her magic...RIP sweet lady and love and miss you!
Lucky Mary Wells. This was the era where you could actually perform and not wear a skimpy outfit or have to grind like you are having sex. An era where you actually had to have a voice and be able to sing. I miss those days!
Thanks Tony for the clarfication, I thought that sounded Flo's story, an your right, I have read that Motown did kill her career. Because she left the label at age 21....I had never heard this song before, it would have been a big HIT for her......boy that Music business was and still is a dirty dirty business.....
Beleive what you want but MOTOWN did persuade radio NOT to play her records & did keep the big distributors from stocking her product & displaying it properly.Herman Griffin was not Mr. Gordys driver. You are getting her confused with Florence Ballard.
MOTOWN DID NOT KILL HER CAREER! She Married the wrong man, Mr. Gordy's driver and he caused her to leave the label, people should get their facts correct before posting them. Mary and I shared her last years and she told me the whole story of her career and put it on tape for me to publish, but I am waiting on the correct time when her children can benefit from the publication of her bio.

The woman sure knew how to own a song, and with the appearance of minimal effort. Mary Wells was the best thing that ever came out of Motown, imho.
