When tying a rappel to a natural anchor, such as a tree, be sure to wrap a towel or piece of carpet around the tree underneath the rope to avoid stripping the bark and harming it. Learn how to securely tie a rappel with helpful advice from an experienced climber in this free video on rock climbing.

  • Click on my name to go to our channel and check out our rappelling/rock climbing shirts--and the Vietnamese model we enlisted to show them off!

  • what u are doing in this video is not safe and should not be followed by ANY ONE. a lot more thorough should have going into the the anchor rig up, and nobody should approach the edge of a cliff with out being tried in as almost all abseiling deaths happen because of people falling of the edge with all the equipment set up but not spending the extra $30 on some extra cord and carabiners, slip and die.

  • You didnt show how to anchor the rope onto the tree.

  • @pplobr of course you should. when people become too comfortable with their skill they get hurt.

  • always use dynamic ropes if your climbing. static ropes are only used in cases were there are no shock forces (falls) as far as i know. I own 60m and 70m ropes but it depends on the length of the pitch you are going to climb the most often

  • you should already be using the harness and tied to the rope (or to the rappeling system) to get to the edge of the cliff wont´ you? isn´t safer that way? thanks and keep safe!

  • @MrSwiss711 erm yer can i have a few please and preferable a demo vid :) pwease cause it is realy bugging me now :\

  • @ThePickledgamer you do not need to tie knots in the rope to connect yourself to the tree in order to rappel. do some reading on it. need any suggestions let me know

  • but HOW DO U TIE IT TO U AND THE TREE????

  • if you are rappeling it is much better to use a static line how ever if you are climbing too you can rappel with a dynamic but it is very strechey never climb with a static line it does not cushin your fall so it can hert your back when you fall on your rope most ropes are around 60meters but some are longer that around 190feet i think
