Funny though, how EVERY SINGLE Elphaba that came after Idina was better than she was, there isn't a single live recording of Idina's that isn't pitchy

You pretty much negated your argument by saying "every live recording is pitchy." Its funny you say that, because ALOT of Eden's vids are pitchy and over riffed, but live she is pretty damn amazing, so before you go bashing actresses over audios, see them live, and dont try backing up by lying and saying "uh I did see Idina live" because you'd be pretty much caught lying

@degeorgetitanic i have seen idina live. she was FANTASTIC. I was actually rather surprised because i went into her concert with the expectation of her to sound horrific; like so many of her audios on YouTube. its no lie when i say it is hard to find a decent audio of idina on here. Go view my video of Idina i recorded...no lies, no lies my friend.

eden is and will always be my favorite elphaba.. i just feel from watching this and the evening she did not nail as much as i thought she would. She is usually off her chain. Nothing is better that the end of her broadway run or the beginnings of her run in LA. she is flawless. i feel rent "roughned" her voice alot, and not for the better. i love my eden but she used to be so great and her voice just isnt there. Do i still think she is the best, yes, do i think that she had her old flaire, no.

Idina isn't a bad performer by any means, she's just not a brilliant Elphaba. The part pushes her voice a bit too far and puts her out of her comfort zone. Other actresses are "better" simply because they aren't straining themselves on every note.

@greensheerful Unfortunately, it was. She added in her beautiful vibrato to cover it. She sounds great, but you're right, the Fiyero is FLAAAAAAT.

@wickedelphabafreeek Right on! Like Julia Murney. People say she's a horrible singer (I quite like her voice though), but she has one of the best portrayals of Elphaba.

@wickedelphabafreeek I also think that people tend to JUDGE based on voice alone. What about acting ability? That definitely needs to be considered when listening to Wicked. Because like I said, it's not all about how great Elphaba can sing. She can sing great and still not be very good at playing Elphaba. She can be very good at playing Elphaba and not be able to do all the cool riffs...so which is better? Most people would say the one who riffs. I would prefer the better actress.

@wickedelphabafreeek her riffs don't seem to be about "this is how well I can sing-booyah". It seems to me that she really thinks that that's what the character would do in that moment.

In musical theatre class, we were talking about how sometimes in Wicked the actress playing Elphaba strays from the story and the song becomes about how good she is compared to Idina, or just how good she is, and she's not even sticking to the actual notes. I don't have a problem with riffing, and I love Eden, but when it becomes about the singer's voice and not about the story, that's when I think it's no good. Eden sings all of her riffs with passion and emotion & is totally into the story.
