The Dodge Brothers "Churchhoue Blues" at The Brook Southampton Nov 2008

The Dodge Brothers perform "Churchhoue Blues" (from their new album LOUISA & THE DEVIL) at The Brook in Southampton (November 2008).

This is the latest in a line of appearances which have included the BBC Culture Shows Busking Challenge and The Roundhouse with Noah and The Whale. As expected they will be continuing to advance their tradition of militant Americana and skiffle. These guys call up the powerful rhythms of trains and the mysteries of the lonesome soul to raise tunes of proven merit ranging from homicide to redemption, as the title of their new release suggests.

The Dodge Brothers have been playing the summer festival set including the Larmer Tree and have recently supported The Subways (Billy Lunn also plays on their new album) and Imelda May. They are slated to play Cropredy Festival & The Barbicans British Silent Film Festival this coming year and regularly appear on BBC Radio. They featured on The Observers 3 page spread which echoed the recent skiffle special on the Culture Show on which they demonstrated the do it yourself nature of skiffle and its American Jug Band roots. Their sound is a call to the restless spirit and will be conjured up by an almighty racket of twanging guitars, crashing washboards, lonely harmonica and rattling double bass featuring Mark Kermode, Aly Hirji, Al Hammond and Mike Hammond. Heartbreak vies with gunplay with this band, and your feet just cant keep still.
