    You've got to be quite an accomplished pianist with good hand and foot coordination to make a piano roll sound really good. The Shellwood piano roll recordings are among the best I've ever heard. With your feet you not only pump the roll through, but you also influence the volume, so you can accentuate individual notes. With your hands operate the sustain pedal and the balance between melody and accompaniment. Playing a roll really well needs a lot of practice and concentration
