A fine example of one of the dozens of Greek recordings from the 1930s which were based on Turkish originals. The overwhelming majority of singers and musicians in the early Athens recording industry were refugees from Asia Minor or Istanbul and they naturally recorded many of the tunes they grew up with, either in Turkish, or most often, with newer Greek lyrics. The music scene in the former Ottoman Empire, especially in the cities, was multi ethnic, in all genres.
