Canadian Forces intelligence specialist Major Michelle Knight Mendes ("Mic") based in Ottawa, Ontario, returns home along the Highway of Heroes on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 4:44 p.m. EST. Major Mendes, originally of Wicklow, Ontario, died on April 23, 2009 while serving during her second tour of duty in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Major Mendes' first deployment to Afghanistan occurred in 2006 when she served as a Captain with 154 Squadron, an Ottawa based unit working in intelligence.

This video was taken at the Victoria Park overpass in Scarborough (Toronto) Ontario. There were many proud Canadians on hand waiving Canadian flags. Their shadows can be seen as the police motorcade passes beneath. Family members waived back to the crowd and it was very emotional for everyone.

It was moving to see the Les Méchins, Québec flag attached to the overpass as this was the hometown of Trooper Karine Blais, who arrived home along Highway of Heroes on April 16, 2009. Please follow the following link to see Trooper Blais' motorcade.

  • @deepbreakfast1960 all i could do i sulut

  • I've read a few articles, nobody seems to know, There are so many dangers in war, not all are seen, but soldiers understand. So considering all I read, it looks to me that the cause of death was bravery in the face of adversity.

    *Heartfelt Salute*

  • RIP. What was the cause of death?

  • I was at CFB Trenton when the Major touched down in Trenton.
