COUNT BASIE Excerpts from the oddly titled "Dance of the Gremlins" (thanks to mfb25890 & mbdavis10025 for the song I.D.), and "Swingin' the Blues", c. 1941.

This is some of the HOTTEST big band swing of the 40s!

Don Byas on tenor, Harry "Sweets" Edison & then later Buck Clayton, trumpet, Jo Jones drums...

  • why is that every time I hear big band jazz, I feel the need to dance?

  • @bjm687 - Cause that's what swing music was originally made for :-)

  • which is then genre that is more down-tempo one? (: please answer, thank you.

  • @thiskidgotmoves - Hi, glad you liked the video. I'm not sure if I understand your question, but the genre of both of these songs is Big Band Swing. The first one is medium tempo, and the second one is fast tempo.

  • wow, thx for the vid that1940sguy! this music is just so great! notice i said is, not was, because its so good that its still around! the crappy rap and pop of today won't last decades like big band/swing/jazz has. im 15, so my generation doesnt appreciate this music for what it is. im also a drummer, and i love playing swing. ive always loved this kind of music, but i havent seen many videos. youve got me hooked tho. keep it up!

  • @montana6426 - Glad you like swing jazz. You're not alone, checkout website thefedoralounge dawt cawm (have to misspell it because youtube tries to block the correct spelling because they dont want anyone to ever visit any other websites in the world other than youtube) - Folks of all ages are on thefedoralounge including teenage who like vintage 1930s-40s-50 stuff including music and movies.

  • @thiskidgotmoves bebop or cool jazz is what you're looking for.

  • Anyone know who's on the tenor sax?

  • @thiskidgotmoves I think what you want to try is blues jazz; it's swing, but slower and usually, as the name implies, a little more sad sounding. Still just as wonderful, of course.

  • Count Basie's Big Band; absolutely classic, and so amazing! It helps that I love swing the most, lol. Thanks for putting this up; the only thing better would be watching them live, and that isn't giong to happen, lol

  • Now why couldn't this be one of those style that are permanent? They dress classy, the music is FAN-TAS- STIC, and they play for the sake of talent, instead of fame.

  • The Good days, when People knew how to Fucking DRESS!!!!!!!!!!

  • @thiskidgotmoves He's asking about songs like Glenn Miller's "Stardust" and its earlier ilk. thiskidgotmoves, you're probably looking for "Traditional pop big band" as the sub-genre. Do a few searches for those terms and see if they get you some more of the soulful, slow-dance sound.

  • @MrDreamTheater2 ok, than please exit this video and go watch some lil wayne then, no need to announce it :/
