Marco Polo is a newly created play performed on a traditional glove puppet stage with specially designed puppets, costumes and Italian and southern Chinese music and singing. While creating this play, we decided to retain the beauty and attraction of traditional Taiwanese glove puppet theatre and its language. Yet, at the same time we added some innovations in content and presentation in order to provide new possibilities for the tradition to develop. The creation of this play is a combined effort of Italian and Taiwanese composers, authors, musicians, sculptors, singers, lighting designers and many others, who all worked to put this play on one of the smallest and most beautiful stages in the world.
