This is pure geeking-out: me exploring a VOIP phone/Web console from iRiver. It's a neat device, but there's no information yet on the pricing or availability.

  • I only saw one finger on the screen so I guess you didn't test out to see if it had multi touch and hand gestures. I didn't really see where that would come in handy in the gui though.

  • Correct, I didn't test that - I doubt is has multi-touch.

  • no i mean why would someone pay for this. it aint like its gonna be a comparable price to a normal phone. its likely gonna be a premium product. and seeing as u can get skype on a mobile with wi-fi or 3G for free then only a dick would spend the money for something that's less mobile.

i commend u for filmin it though. cos it is pretty cool. i'd deffo use it if i got one for free. maybe thats its market. maybe its the sort of thing u buy as a gift for someone u know who uses skype.

  • Will it cost more than a $9.99 phone at Wal-Mart? Yes, definitely. But I can see a lot of value in having a phone that has a Internet-connected display, can show me the weather, my calendar, etc. If the price is around $200, I might buy one. It would have to work with my current VOIP phone system though...

  • why

  • Why would someone use a device like this? It's a replacement for a home phone system. Or why would I film it? I thought it looked cool. :-)
