Needless to say, Stitt & Johnson are great. I really enjoyed Howard McGhee's tpt. solo. I have this footage on a DVD called "We Remember Bird". Walter Bishop is on piano, Tommy Potter on Bass, & the great Kenny Clarke on drums.

@geekbeeterupper, check out JJs live albums. He goes for it more in person than in the studio. For example, there is a nice recording of him playing blue bossa live on youtube, and he nails high Ebs. Check it out.....also, Stan Getz and JJ at the Opera House 1956.....the best JJ in my opinion. That album is a must have for any jazz trombone player.

@jonot2449 i had the same problem! jsut cuz he never goes above D i was like "man this guys not THAT good..." i was soooo wrong!

@ThisIsTheAlphabet Man, J.J.'s such an awesome trombonist! No matter how far people may think trombone has come since J.J., every good trombonist still looks back and thinks "man, what a fantastic player!" If you actually take the time to sit down and transcribe some of his solos yourself, you realise how clean and precise he is compared to many trombone players - even some of the incredible ones today. Admittedly, t took me awhile to appreciate just how good he is!

@ThisIsTheAlphabet Haha, cool. Thanks for that. Let me know if you find out what the tune is because it's an ongoing joke between a few horn playing mates of mine. When we play together, we try to sneak the lick into solos or at the end of songs but I don't know where it originally came from.
