A Christmas Poem For Rhys Jones

This poem was written by Rhys's father Stephen and published in the local and national media.

The poem is read out and set to Irish music.

The imagery cuts between Nativity scenes of Mary and Jesus, as the story of Christmas is something Rhys and the children and people of Liverpool celebrate. Sadly, for the family of Rhys, the celebration will be one of hurt as the police have not charged the killer as of yet.

The famous paintings of The Blessed Mary with her Child Jesus is something that stirs emotions. The sacred union of mother and child - the bond that was there before a father laid eyes on a child, is something many revere. The story of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, brings a hope and yet a sadness also as a child was born who was destined for a cruel death.

As we celebrate Christmas we think of Rhys and of his killer and his helpers who walk amongst us, like something unholy, something that has no place in Liverpool. We vow to bring them to Justice.
