Andy started his musical career off in the late 1930's singing with his brothers in the Williams Brothers Quartet (they sang "Swinging On A Star" with Bing Crosby). When he went solo in the 50's, he signed a recording contract with Cadence Records and had many hits including "Are You Sincere" which went to #3 in February of 1958. Upon leaving Cadence for Columbia Records in the early 60's, he had the foresight to buy the Cadence master recordings that included not only his own work but that of the Everly Brothers, Chordettes, and other artists on that label which ultimately became a master business stroke.
On this date in 1958 {Feb. 17th} "Are You Sincere" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it would peak at #3 and spent 17 weeks in the Top 100...
Surprisingly didn't make the Billboard's Year-End Hot 50 Singles of 1958 chart...
Trini Lopez's 1965 covered version peaked at #65...
Elvis Presley also recorded it, his version only appeared in an album...

Fantastic voice! The only thing that ever bugged me about him is ECHO. All of his songs had exteme echo effects. Plus; even on his TV show his vocals were enhanced with echo. He didn't need it. He still has a fantastic range today! I think it was the Record Companies' fault. They probably thought the the echo would be appealing to teens. Even Steve Lawrence, who was also on the Steve Allen Tonight Show with Andy was using a lot of echo on his early recordings. I've seen him in Vegas /no echo.

American "bullshit" Idol contestants -- this voice is a real pop voice. Listen to the rich tone, the baritone range, the warmth of the timbre. This is what real singing was all about -- not your feminized-style of voices of today. I was born in1975, and i was not around when this guy was in his prime, but this is a great voice.
