This is torero Alfredo Gutierrez from Mexico, filling in for matador Fernando Ochoa who apparently couldn't make the corrida because of some problem with his papers. It's not clear whether Gutierrez is a matador or not -- I don't think he is because his suit is decorated in black, not gold. Typically full matadors (having passed their alternativa) wear gold.

This is Gutierrez's third tercio, with muleta. I did not think it was a good performance. Instead of long, smooth, graceful moves that convey a patient command of the bull, he plays with it, confuses it, then seems to mock it. Any monkey can do that. It takes real skill for a matador to master his fear, slow down, and practice the classic form. The bull should also always be respected in my view, never mocked. The bull will die -- either in the arena or outside it, since a bull can only be fought once, ever. It's not right to mock an amazingly powerful animal, but also one that is owned, as livestock, and will die because humans decide. Respect for the bull's power, dignity, and situation should always be conveyed.

  • okay ignoring vatoslocosvic - I love your description for the video! I actually thought that on the first tercio - His veronicas were so quick and lacking grace, and even here. . . I feel we have too many toreros like this in California. His passes here with the muleta are not passes at all - Like you said, any monkey can do that. I do like the bull, though. He's more motivated than the average. Too his only debut is wasted.

  • A civil commenter! I agree. I liked the bull too. He was lively and smart, but not chaotic. His features could have been better presented.

  • you are what in the bullfighting fiesta we call "villamelon", you aint have an idea of this...

    watch, learn and then... talk

  • I don't actually care what you think. I studied toreo in Spain, with classic teachers. It's my film and I can say what I like.

  • Who would you suggest to watch, for a true display of classic Bullfighting?
