It's incredible how fast things change, how emotions rise above one another, how situations can go from great to horrible. So just when you thought everything was good, it turns out worse than before.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Abigail was still in shock from her gift. It was a huge easel, a small sketchbook, a large sketchbook, and all the materials an artist could need. I knew she loved to draw and paint so much. She ran over to me and jumped in my arms. I knew she really liked her gift. It was all her.
"Joe, thank you so much for getting me this. You really didn't have to."
"But I wanted to. I know you love to draw and paint so much so this was something I knew you needed sooner or later."
"You are so sweet."
I kissed her deeply and she pulled away slowly. "You know I would do anything for you, Abigail."
She put her head on my chest and sighed. "You are the best."
"Why don't you try it out?"
"Sure. What should I draw or paint?"
"Whatever you want, sweetheart."
"How about my favorite subject in the world? Stand by the window." I walked over and I obeyed. She stood by the easel and inspected me. "Face outside like you're looking out the window." I did as she said. "Perfect. Stay like that."
I stared out the window as Abigail drew what she saw. I thought about her. She was so beautiful and nice. I wanted to be able to give her everything I could. We had been together for more than a year now. Maybe it was time for more than just us being lovers. Maybe it was time to take the next step.
Of course, I would love to marry Abigail. But I knew that as easy it sounded, it would probably be the hardest thing to do. It would cause so much trouble and things would be much harder than they had already been. It seemed impossible but it would bring a lot of hurt to Abigail if we decided to get married.
I started imagining what it would be like to marry Abigail. She was everything I could ever want. She was already my life and I would have to make it official soon. I could imagine our wedding. Abigail would look extraordinarily beautiful in her white dress, walking towards me.
I was getting ahead of myself. First I would have to ask her to marry me. How could I be so sure that she would even say yes? But I knew she loved me. If she didn't, she certainly wouldn't have forgiven me so many times for my stupid mistakes. She already thought of us getting married so why wouldn't she say yes to me?
But how would I even start to propose her? What was I thinking? I had to get this out of my head. There was barely any light outside anymore and I knew Abigail had to stop drawing soon. I took a deep breath. Dinner was coming and it was always the dreaded event of the day.
"Done."
I sighed. "Finally. Can I see it now?"
"Not yet. Some other time."
A maid walked in. "Time for supper, Your Highness, Lady Abigail."
"Thank you. We'll be right down." I turned to Abigail. "Another night. Come on."
I grabbed her hand and we walked down to the dining room but we were met with a surprise that should never have come. "Joseph, I invited Christine back. She's staying the night here."
"What?! No!" I stared at Christine's stupid, smug smile.
"Joseph, sit down."
Dinner was especially quiet. Why would anyone want to talk? My mother had planned this. She had obviously failed with those other girls so she brought Christine here to try again. How evil. I suddenly remembered that I forgot to blow out the flame of the fireplace in the other room.
I leaned over to Abigail's ear. "I have to do something. I'll be right back." She shook her head and her eyes were filled with worry but I squeezed her thigh in reassurance. I kissed her cheek. "Excuse me," I said to the table. I walked upstairs to the third floor and blew out the flame.
I walked slowly back downstairs and I reached the dining room. I sat next to Abigail again and grabbed her hand. She looked up at me and tears were all over her face. I looked at her shocked. She whimpered and stood up. She ran away in hysterics. I immediately followed and we ended up at my room.
She fell to the floor and continued to cry hysterically. I ran to her and pulled her into my arms. I was worried about her. What could have happened in the time I was gone? She sobbed into my chest and I held her close to me. I stroked her hair and kissed the top of her head.
"Shh, sweetheart. I'm right here. Everything will be fine. Please stop crying. What happened?"
"Joe, please don't send me away."
"What? Why would you say that? What happened?"
"Please tell me you love me."
"I love you, Abigail."
"Don't make me leave," she pleaded, throwing her arms over my shoulders and crying into my neck.
"Never, sweetheart. Shh." I rubbed her back and moved so I was sitting against my bed. I cradled her in my arms and she slowly fell asleep in tears. I held her tight and fell asleep myself, wondering what could have happened.
    I bet the picture she drew of Joe is amazing. I wouldn't know of course but it's fun to assume, right? haha
    When Joe said he needed to leave the room I was like 'Uh-oh, I wouldn't do that if I were you!' lol
    I can imagine that christine and his mom teamed up and said she wasn't wanted there or something. Grr.
    Why does Joe have the most evil mom?!
  • GAAAAH!!!! SO MANY CLIFFIES!!!!!!
    but seriously, if this was Sweeney Todd, i'd throw joe's mother and Christine into the meat grinder!!!!!!!
  • His mom or what ever that girls name is probably made up a lie >=/
  • I hate Christine. She is such an idiotic bitch. Hurting Abigail's feelings is not going to make Joe want her any more.
