@johnsmalling it's called passive defending, used in situations like these. Once the skill has been improved then the defender will become active.

ronaldo is not jumping when he do it because then its too predictable to see which way he goes. he is doing it in a fluid motion. everybody can do it when you jump but it's hard to master doing it while you are running fast and in a fluid motion like ronaldo.
