This is our baby blue jay we found in the yard on Tuesday, June 23. This video shows him on Thursday, June 25th, at one of his very many feeding times. We thought he was dead when we found him, but he had just the slightest movement and we were able to revive him. Two days later you can see how active -- and demanding he became. By the way we feed him finely ground dry dog food mixed with water to form a paste. A few days later we switched to canned dog food.

  • i heard most blue jays die in human captivity, you need to bring it to a wild life rehabilitation center(if there is none then the bird is all yours). did your blue jay live?

  • @sh3r1ly - Yes, he lived. He was very healthy and we released him after about a week. The parents remained in the area we found him and they recovered him within minutes of release. I've saved several birds, including a couple of blue jays. You can never find a wild life rehab center when you need one, and I've never used one. I've found the secret to recovery is plenty of feeding (I use finely crushed, dry dog food mixed with water), and as little physical handling as possible.

  • what are you feeding it? can you give me the recipe? :)

  • For food we used dried dog food mixed with water to form a soupy paste. This mixture has worked for us in saving three other birds. The hardest part was getting him to "leave the nest", which he/she eventually did and was reclaimed by his parents who were living in our backyard. Good luck. . .

  • What Were You Watching in The Background?

  • @sh3r1ly they die in captivity because uneducated people try and raise them.

  • @goose003 She found it, and, much like my situation, is feeding it food and keeping it healthy until the parents claim it again. Our situation is that our blue jay chick was abandoned and was dying. My dad saved it and we are raising it until it knows how to fly. I call him flightless 24/7 XD

  • I recently (about two days ago) found a baby female blue jay. Before I got a hold of some actual mix that I got from pet super market, I was able to give it some water (drops at a time) also feeding it soaked cat food for it to get soft. What we got for the bird about the second day, was some mini mealies and some baby bird food powder mix. You would mix it up to a thickness for your little birdy. Mine enjoyed it. (his name is zephyrus) for wind (;

  • For mine, I am using moist dog food.

  • did u find the bird or buy it? cool bird

  • i found 1 with no fethers yet what do i do it barely can squeak

  • Wah?!You fed it dog food??
