The Renewable Fuels Association, an ethanol proponent, said gas with ethanol content under 10 percent should not harm small engines, but that may be harder to get. Earlier this year, the Environmental Protection Agency approved increasing the ethanol content in gasoline from 10 percent to 15 percent for vehicles built after 2001. The EPA made that decision despite strong opposition from small engine manufacturers.
