  • Thank you very much! My dad just upgraded and gave me his old Associated Machine Tool (Los Angeles), made in 1978 but there is a tiny wobble at the end of the bit when I install one. I think something is wrong with the chuck and didn't know how to take it off, ..will be hard to find another one, or is that no problem? I plan on cleaning the whole thing. I just finished taking the electric motor apart to add new grease to the bearings.

  • @scolopede Finding a new chuck is no issue. Just determine to size taper you need. They can be found online very easy. I have another video on Identifying drill chucks It may be helpful to watch it. I also have on my web site a chart to help to determine the taper you need

  • Yes it will fit but side cutting with an endmill in a drill press is not recommended. The bearings in a drill press are not designed for side load. Using a ER collet chuck would work ok for drilling tapping reaming etc.

  • Excellent instructional from someone that knows what he is doing. Thank you.

  • Thank You

I hope to be adding more videos soon

OK thanks. I knocked the chuck off, there is no shaft on the chuck, it fits on the shaft kind of like pushing a bearing on a shaft ...a hole in the middle of the chuck. It is straight now. It is a cheap design imo but I'd rather have this than not have it at all.

  • is there any way that u can fit proper bearings in a drill press that r designed for milling?

  • hey man great video 5 stars but got a ?..u said it was a number 3 taper right well can a MT2 or MT3 milling chuck that uses ER collets could that fit up in the drill press?

  • I found this very interesting; I don't even own a drill press, I always wondered how they stayed in there. Thanks...
