Came across this 2001 Dodge Durango SLT 4.7L 4x4 back in October, 2009 as a Salvage vehicle and I basically only repaired the body damage and replaced the tires with BFGoodrich all-terrains - Haven't really touched the motor, transmission, or interior..
As you can see from the 'before' pics, it had some serious dent damage around the entire body. Estimates were between $1800 - $2300 to fix, but my buddies at the local Maaco body shop managed to do the job you see now for under a Grand! It took them almost an entire month to fix..
Other mods include the Surco Safari roof rack that came from my old 1993 S-10 Blazer I no longer have (blown motor). It is 50x60 inches and the off-road lights on the rack were purchased separately through Summit Racing. The Bully hitch mounted cargo rack (rated for 500 pounds) was purchased through Amazon.com. I replaced the front brake pads with Raybestos brake pads, replaced the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module) that activates the 4WD on the dash, added the twin/dual cold air intake (found on eBay) along with a Magnaflow catalytic converter and 40 series Flowmaster single exhaust with a chrome tip.
The 4.7L V8 engine is rated at 230 horsepower from the factory and with the cold air intake and exhaust modifications, it is estimated to be around 250 horsepower. It does burn a little bit of oil when you give it gas (probably blow-by from the valves), but for having as many miles as it does, it runs excellent!

  • hows the gas millage on yours? i have a 2002 with the 4.7, its also a 4x4 slt, and your leather held up a hell of alot better then mine did, mine also only has allitle over 89,000 miles on it. It was my moms old car and my parents gave it to me when i got my licence, theye are great trucks!

  • @roddyyy524 It's ok.. With over 250,000 miles on her now, fuel economy is not great; she burns a fair amount of oil I do know that, but with the air intake and exhaust mods, I'm thinking it has 15-20 more horsepower than stock and she still hauls ass! They are really fun to drive!

  • @rvr2 i think mine really needs a tuneup because im only getting 8-9mpg driving it easy around town lol, 89000 miles on original plugs, i wana do an exaust and i already have a k&n intake, it really does haul ass for such a big suv, it is so much more fun then driving my moms new envoy

  • @roddyyy524 Oh wow! Yeah it may need a tuneup with mileage like that and still using the original spark plugs.. I can't remember what I put in mine but I would estimate my gas mileage around 12-15 mpg cause of the high mileage and burning oil..

This Durango is currently in southern Mexico as our vacation vehicle so if you're curious to see what I've been doing with it down there, just type in 'Durango' in my search bar there and the related videos should come up...

  • @rvr2 that is an awesome truck! you should get another one for back up here in the states maybe even a 5.9 r/t

  • @roddyyy524 I'm lookin for another.. Those 5.9 R/T's are sweet!

  • that intake is acutally doing worse than ur factory intake cause its sucking all ur engine bay heat into the intake

  • @rvr2 we were actually looking at one for me then my parents decided to get my mom a new envoy, but they are really nice, the 5.9 also has alot more aftermarket support

  • @mrwilliwizard Actually was able to lift it 3 inches in the back for $40 using a rear leaf spring kit from Auto Zone.

I posted another video of it..
