My mom once received some of our relatives things - among them was a Rashid Behboodov record. I used to listen to it when I was little :)
This is the best rendition of a non-Armenian singing in Armenian. And his voice... oh, his voice!!

I have also heard that he may have been part Armenian, but all I can confirm is that he taught in Yerevan and that most of his touring bands consisted of several Armenians.
