Part 1 - The Construction. The War of Independence Victory Column is located in Freedom Square, Tallinn, Estonia. It was opened on 23rd June 2009 as a memorial for those who fell during the Estonian War of Independence, through which the people of Estonia will be able to commemorate all those who had fought for freedom and independence.

The idea of creating a monument was conceived in 1919, before the end of the war. During the liberation war of 1918-1920 6,275 people were killed, and many more wounded. In 1936 a law was passed to establish nation-wide monument in commemoration of the Liberation War. Preparatory work was interrupted by the Second World War and subsequent Soviet annexation. After Estonia regained independence the question of establishing a nation-wide monument for the commemoration of the Liberation War was raised. In spring 2005, the Parliament of Estonian decided that a column of victory in memory of the War will be erected in Freedom Square in Tallinn.

The pillar is 23.5 meters high and consists of 143 specially designed and strengthened glass plates. The memorial incorporates the Cross of Liberty, Estonias most distinguished award established in 1919. The monument complex cost around 11 million $ dollars.

Estonia in the 90s, ha. Estonia has improved more in 20 years sincee 1991 than Russia. Russia is still just like the evil Soviet Union, only now they call theirselves democratic while any journalist or a person doesn't like Putin gets murdered. Estonia is nazi? Your so retarded if your say something like that. Estonia is ranked 4 in the press freedom rankings, Russia is ranked 153. There are hundreds of reports of Russian neo-nazis killing immigrants in Russia every year.

  • Local Russians, who don't want to learn Estonian, because they feel superior to us, can always leave. Remember, they where uninvited in the first place.

  • Sampolit, miks võtsite maha video Eesti Politseist ?

  • @klaabu99 on my list (Deutsch/Baltischer Verein+ evangelische Kirche-Flüchtlingsregister) 770 where deported, i will see the documents, somtimes you have to see the seconde name, dont forget after 1918 a lot of germans from Petersburg and parts of Poland did leave Russia or new-Poland and did settle to Estonia or Latvia. Many of them did count like Russian Passport-holders and somtimes allready had russian family-names. Maybe this is the difrience between 1945 and 557.. this 13 are interesting

  • @Gintoxiccc

at july 1940 were arrested most of people who worked in estonian police .. estonian border guards and estonian army were removed earlier ... police was last threat to soviet goverment

  • @Gintoxiccc btw 557 germans were deported on 1945 not 770 ...

and on 1941 13 germans were deported

  • @Gintoxiccc 14.05.1941. USSR C(b)P Central Committee and USSR Council of People’s Commissars’ decision nr. 1299 -526 “Concerning deportations of socially foreign elements from the Baltic republics, Western Ukraine, Western Byelorussia and Moldavia”. Here we find the list of 9 categories of persons who are to be deported: ...6) persons that are in connection with Germany; 7) refugees from former Poland... btw i was talking about estonia not soviet union(russia)
  • @klaabu99 In 39/40 the forced migration was organised well. The Estonian border guard gave the Expatrioation to the Germans and he signed, went on the ship. But when in 1940 the Soviets marched in panic started with the remained Germans and the evacuation was organised by the German Embasy in Reval. The German Embasy did force the Germans to sign the document otherwise no way inside the vessel.. the Estonian border guards allready lost contol 40/41 of the borders of the harbour .

  • @klaabu99 In Hitler Stalin pact the forced migration was regulated clearly. Not a single German was deported in 1940/41 by Stalin, but was evacuated to Germany. Few Germans in Estonia have remained in 1945, long after the Soviets Estonia took again, the order of deportation come. These were mostly mixed marriages.
