@MEGAJASONGUY08 not everyone accepts adventure 2 as cannon. Shodow the Hedghog is also non-cannon. The official (Jap) Sonic Team will not and has not (except for Yuji Naka but he is no longer a member) ever openly said what his real name is. Search it. Most agree tho, that Robotnik is real and Eggman a nickname. Besides, Robotnik sounds way past cooler.

continued from my previous comment, my original point is that his real name is Ivo Robotnik and Eggman is just a nickname. I mean come on, how horrible would your parents have to be to name you Eggman?

"He's doctor Gerald *Robotnik*, one of the greatest scientific minds in history- and *my grandfather*

And even after that, in the game Shadow the Hedgehog, this quote from Black Doom:

"You were created 50 years ago by professor Gerald *Robotnik* and I"

@TheGameJak and @MEGAJASONGUY08 your both right. in the american manual for Sonic (1991) he is called Dr. Ivo Robotnik. in Jap, Eggman. Yuji Naka (former head of Sonic Team and lead creator of Sonic) has explained that "Robotnik" is the character's real name while "Eggman" is a "common name taken after his shape. Still in Most Japanese Bios list his full name as unknown. Its the same as the Sonic Maurice thing. Sonic's real name is uknown.
