After the death of Ted Knight in August 1986, his self-titled series, which, as a relaunched version of Too Close For Comfort, could have remained in production due to its continued ratings success. However, there's no doubt that the show's breakout star, Jim J. Bullock, would have taken over top billing, now having his own vehicle for that perennial pain-in-the-butt, Monroe Ficus. The Rush family saga would then go under another title change; this one, contrary to what most people would think, uses "gay" to stress the upbeat, crazy comedy the showstill depicted, as a way to deflect from the recent death of Knight.
