@dawalt009 not really This is no One Fine Day/My Sweet Lord thing. I would call it inspiration but the Jolly Roger musical fling is traditional with no owner and the bridge has nothing to do with Leaky Boat. Vocal range is a coincidence with the engineer most likely responsible if anyone for similarities beyond the obvious.

@AnnaMayWongSociety my dear Anna May do you not understand this song came about because the Finn bros. heard the tune "The wreck of the Antoinette" on NZ radio back in 1968/1969, it actually reached no.1 on the charts in NZ. When I meant theme, I meant sail ship theme, just ask Men At Work about minor note copies and what can happen with plagiarism. I don't believe the engineer had anything to do with the obvious, I love Split Enz this is a great song, just making apoint

Also since you want to remove the obvious apparently not recognizing the mix and equalization of voices has as much to do with your thinking this is a copy, I have to stop and let readers decide. Fantastic. In the summer of 1985, I was a diesel mechanic in the Canadian Navy Reserves onboard the HMCS Port St Jean and this was our unofficial ship's song for that great summer. What a bunch of bums we were that summer.
