There is to be a new visitor centre at Stonehenge. Here is my concept of how it might be. It is based upon the realisation that the builders of Stonehenge were bold and innovative. We should respond in like manner, and devise a visitor centre which would be equally bold and inspiring.
Time is running out, and it has been deemed that the new centre should be completed and operating in time for the 2012 Olympics. This seems ambitiopus, given the many years of delay and indecision that have dogged the project. It may be that an existing concept will be dusted off and implemented. It probably means that there will be an underground exhibition space. Not particularly inspiring!
Now that we can see clearly that Stonehenge was indeed an astronomical observatory at phase 3, it becomes imperative that we should have a Stonehenge reconstruction, with a large domed screen overhead as a planetarium. Images of the sun, moon, stars, and planets would be projected, and seen in their positions from 4500 years ago.
The concept shown here houses the reconstructed Stonehenge within a large conical building. It is based upon Silbury Hill, which is the largest prehistoric man made mound in Europe.
There is a spiral path around the outside of the cone, and a large flat area at the summit. Ceremonies could be enacted there, with a clear view of the sky above. The people who built Stonehenge were undoubtedly sky-watchers.
Lower down, there is a large expanse of solar panels, forming the roof of the exhibition and archive space. It also houses the restaurant and shop.
I think that you will agree that this is innovative. Let me know what you think, by posting a comment.
Of course it would need to be located at a distance from the monument itself, in order not to detract from the ancient stones. However, we should not feel intimidated by the monument and hide away underground like frightened rabbits. The people who built Stonehenge are our ancestors. What on earth would they think of us if we did that?

  • What do you think of the sound track?

There is a free copy of "The Bones of Stonehenge" e-book for the first person to correctly guess the musical instrument used to create this sound. Note that it is an acoustic instrument, and is not a digeridoo.

The e-book can be downloaded from the Brontovox website.

  • It is based upon the shape of Silbury Hill. Also watch my "Silbury Hill sunrise" video.

Silbury hill was a place of very positive significance, a place of birth and new life. It is explained in my e-book "The Bones of Stonehenge".

We must learn from those who built these remarkable monuments, and seek for peace in the world of today.

  • that looks like an illuminati trash cap-stone missing pyramid to me ! keep those away from positive energy places like stonehenge plz ! ty
