Doug Raney Quartet in Louisville, Jan 2, 1995. For all of you who have been clamoring for a Doug Raney video, HERE IT IS! There aren't that many. This concert was done for the Louisville Jazz Society (organized by Jamey Aebersold & the late Phil Bailey). Doug Raney like his father is one of the unsung heroes of jazz guitar. This is his arrangement of When Sunny Gets Blue. Doug is one of the most swinging, smoothest, melodic players around in the tradition. Marvelous! *Not to draw attn to it but there was a very slight lag in the video making the fingering appear late/more awkward than in reality.

Doug was on a visit to our ailing father who had suffered a stroke. Jimmy passed 5 months latter in May of1995. One other note-- the final credit got messed up. But I assuming all you know who the guitarist is!

  • There are a very few of Doug. I have 2 short ones and more from this concert. Will post another track from the Nashville gig for Dad. Sorry for the delay

    Jon

  • finally a doug raney video on youtube - and a nice one! to say that jimmy and doug raney are somehow underrepresented on the web is quite an understatement ... it's bewildering how two guitarrists like that can be widely ignored by the public.

Are there any videos of jimmy and doug playing duo? would be great to see that.

  • I don't possess any of them duo I have audio recordings. I hear of some people in Europe having them.

see all

  • awesomness.. thank you..

  • How does someone get a hold of Doug?

  • Great Playing !!!

    I love Doug !!

  • This is beautiful.. Thank you...

  • I saw him playing together with his dad, when he was about 20 years old in Belgium ( Heist op de berg). Before that time he had played rock music , but started listening to records of his father and learned to play jazz in a short time

  • Jon Thanks for posting this !! You and Doug had to have made your Dad SO very proud of you guys !!!

  • Bravo !!!! l' influenza del padre è grande ma lui ha grande personalità. Grande Doug .

  • Jimmy and Doug are hands down the most tasteful jazz guitarist ive heard. They are the elite few that play like horn players rather than the "fret board pattern" guitarists you find 9 times out of 10 these days. Definitely my biggest influences as a jazz musican

  • YES!!! Thanks for posting this!

Doug deserves to be remembered, And promoted in any way possible! He is surely a master of jazz guitar and a master improviser!

Just hope he will soon start playing more again! Come on Doug! You are the man! :-)

    Thanks Jon
