This is a video i did to demostrate how good mike portnoy is at using hihats! Actually he is the best drummer ever (in my opinion). I wanted to show a different mike portnoy, with his different skills.

It is amazing and beautifull to see him do that!!

NOTE********

there are a lot of more songs where he uses hihat amazing, but i dotn have those dvds, or there are no dvds. I want to show the audio, but more important, the VIDEO. It is beautiful to see this man doing that with the drums!

  • to all the guys who said this can be done with 3+ years of drumming...i bet you guys can, but can u guys really create this patterns? i mean, its completely different to play something than creating it. Damn trollers

  • I'm sorry but what is so MAD about this? He's basically playing some very basic stuff on the hihat which everyone can do if they've played for 3-4 years. I'm not bashing him, I just don't get why everyone is praising THIS video when it's really NOTHING special. There's nothing mad about it at all.

  • @RobResource ok mr "nothing special" :)

  • @RobResource It's just the 2nd youngest inductee to the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame and currently the youngest in the Hall of Fame ;)

  • @DT2BLZ The patterns aren't really that difficult either though... Portnoy does have some amazing hi-hat parts, it's just that the ones shown in this video aren't some of his best.

  • @drivenbyblastbeat be cooler..

  • So, um... just curious. What's the logic behind wearing hats indoors?

  • @RobResource He is playing tastefully, and playing what is right for the part. Most musicians don't think "WHAT CAN I PLAY THAT IS REALLY HARD!?" ....and obviously these skills are not maddening to most professional with solid rudiments, but to the average fan making a video appreciating what this guy does it seems overkill to go off about how this isn't special.

  • @RobResource that precisely? i'd like to see that

  • That part of 'Never Enough' makes me shit off my pants

  • "im just too sick" 2:40 ;)

  • @DT2BLZ hey - we all not Mike Portnoy. All that we say is that we CAN play it - and it's fairly easy to play much more complicated things. Nobody's talking about creating a parts. And it's wrong to talk about it - we are not in Dream Theater and never was. All that we say it's not difficult. And of course it's very musical. I caught myself realizing that I've playing all 6/8 songs like that...It's like second nature. Same as left-hand flams...(talking about myself)
