I see the musical fascists are at it again, telling people what to like/not like and acting as self appointed custodians of what is jazz, what isn't, what is tasteful, what isn't. Thank god for these musical commissars. Without them we might make our own minds up.

funny how the ability to post comments in online forums makes some people think their subjective opinions reflect anything other than their subjective opinions. this is a lovely version of a lovely song, no matter what kind of music you call it, and whether or not it even needs to be labeled. i played the montreux jazz festival, yet know nothing compared to the players on this cut. i'm sure modes9's playing reflects the same sensivity, standards and warmth as his posts... how about some links?

It's amusing to watch the purists try to come to terms with a legit musician's choice to express himself in a genre that the purists don't like. Like Miles when he went into the jazz/rock thing. People still to this day refuse to accept it. But the bottom line is: Brecker on his worst day still created something more worthwhile than any of the musical midgets on this comments page. Decades from now, people will still be listening to Brecker. People listening to Modes9??? yea, not so much.

right...and jazz greats occasionally do other genres....no harm in this just shows their mastery of all forms of instrumental music.....Wes Montgomery did some not so great stuff also...but his reputation still is that of a jazzer of stature. It's all good bro....

Yea Modes9, you're one of those cats who, judging by your screen name, perhaps studies music at a school and "has your head so far far up your *ss" all full up on chord changes and modes and chord substitutions, that you fail to realize that these musicians have gone so far past that and can now let it all go and just play music from their hearts, not a damn real book or textbook. Get a clue my friend. Stick to musicology and leave the playing to the rest of us.

Hoagy Carmichael wrote the song: not a natural singer but there is nothing to match the authenticity of his rendition particularly his latwer versions of the song. Its all from the heart: if you have accomplishment to match....
