A less biased account of the early part of the 20th century is George F. Kennan's American Diplomacy. (The Zbigniew Brzezinski before Brezsinski) and the key architect of our post WWII foreign policy of containment. Containment of Socialist Democracy might be a better term, but you can draw your own conclusions.
