i had used my rapid fire gunstock shooter a couple of times and i find it works the best when shooting with wide angle lens. however, even with the additional help of a z-finder, slight body movements or hand shakes can sometimes be magnified to almost unacceptable levels when shooting with heavier or narrower angle of view lenses like my ef 24-70mm 2.8L lens. but then, having invested in and used the rapid fire, i could appreciate the added stability offered by the tactical shooter due to its extra point of body contact as support and lower center of gravity to take some "weights" off my right hand. therefore i ordered my tactical shooter upgrade kit last week.

i received my upgrade kit from zacuto on friday and decided to put the upgraded tactical shooter into test yesterday by shooting the "let it snow" christmas parade in hong kong disneyland.

the entire footage was shot with me standing in the audience using an ef 70-200mm 2.8L lens on my handheld canon eos 7d body. video was captured in 1080p/25p mode. audio was captured separately using my olympus LS-10 recorder installed on the zound hotshoe.

although this video has a length of only about three and a half minutes, the source material is close to half an hour. the whole system was held in my hands for 30 minutes and stability was achieved entirely by the zacuto gear. besides pluraleyes, post production was entirely done in final cut studio 3 on a 2008 macbook pro. no filters or grading have been performed to keep the video quality "as it is". only transitions and some motion effects have been applied. but i must admit a few shots could use some color grading especially those disney characters close-up with very grey and dull background. in general, i am very happy with the stability achieved by my newly upgraded zacuto gear.

the tactical shooter does have one problem. with the right hand gripping the handle way below the camera body, it is not possible to avoid big body movement when i press the start/stop button on the body. this inevitable body movement needs to be taken into account when starting or stopping recording.

  • Can I know where I can download this song?

  • sorry, no idea.

  • Do you need to manually change the focus while recording using the 7D?

  • there is auto focus but very slow. i think most of the people who use 7d or 5d to shoot video focus only manually.

  • nice video and thanx for visiting disney i hope you enjoyed it

  • @gromit678 it's a DSLR not a video camera, comes with its advantages and disadvantages. Yes manual focus ONLY that's why people get a z finder makes it easier and with practice it's worth it. DSLR tech has its own advantages that the video cams dont and video image quality isn't the only one

  • Mr. gromit I suggest you read up on Depth of Field. Wide-Angle lenses help with getting more things in focus so does stopping down the aperture (the lower the number e.g. 1.4 with the price tag sounds great but if you want more in focus you need a higher number) or having the objects further away from the camera. All this relates to DOF

  • Thanks.

  • I love those blue outfits Mickey & friends are wearing! <333 They're so pretty.
