this is the intro from a TCM TV doc on the life of Errol Flynn. I love this clip. Flynn was one of my heros in "old movies" as a small boy in the 60's and 70's. This guy created the mold that Johnnie Depp has had so much fun breaking.
Flynn would have absolutely approved.

Don't know....both maybe? You know, his hair 'worked up' for the movies. Hollywood hairdressers could probably do anything with anything.

It took a man like Flynn to push forward the action movie genre, during the early talking picture period. Watching him, I think they selected him as a great personality for the screen, rather finding a guy they can mold into an actor. That's why the present day generation of leading men fall short. They ,as men, are not big enough, not grand enough, not powerful enough. They are trained monkeys by comparison to Flynn. That sonuvabitch....

Sounds more, that (at least his first wife) after their breakup was a draining, depleting taker of his dream house ... reduced him and new family to living on his boat. And blocked his marrying perhaps soul mate Olivia deHavilland

Now that would be something to look forward to: 'Flynn' in a new film. The only think is that you'd still need the kind of talent, hard work, resources and most importantly scriptwriters that Hollywood put into his best films also re-created.

I've often thought that as well. I remember when the tech was in it's infancy, they used to do short bits like a current star in "The Honeymooners", etc. That would present interesting 'licensing' situations, as well. If that didn't take off, I could more imagine CGI film makers basing their hero/heroine on a close likeness of the past, altered to perfection and uncredited. Interesting thought.

I'm not a particular fan of CGI, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see Errol Flynn again in a new swashbuckler. Whether right or wrong, I think we're going to see classic movie actors on screen again. The public may not buy it. But the possibility is there, now.

Could it be that this is another untruth that has become an Urban Legend and taken, now, as fact, at least as far as I can tell after having spent years reading anything and everything I could about him...? Would love to know your source for this story. Thx! :-)

Flynn had the "IT" factor. Looks, charm, wit, acting chops, athletic skill-- all showed up on screen then and still do just as strongly today. Flynn led such an interesting life prior to his acting career (indeed some of his tales are yarns) and IMO all his experiences and inborn traits came together to lend a solid credibility to his action films that still hold up 70+ years later. Such acting attributes cannot be replicated or produced through CGI.
