I have 4 Niger colonies and find it is easier viewing them in red light. Natural light can cause the Queen to destroy her brood due to the fact she believes she may need to relocate. My colonies are from naturally caught and reared Queens. I kept them in small meat paste Jars and was fortunate to have Queens chambers situated next to the glass.
Myrmica species can have numerous Queens. Most I counted was 15.

when the queen dies, the colony dies, so how do you keep the colony alive. does the queen give birth to an another queen befor she dies.

@thefatguy303 im not sure about any lasius spieces but im pritty sure that myrimca spieces have more than one queen so the colony can keep on going

@antboy888 Idiot, queens become photosensitive after becoming pregnant. too much light stresses them out. This is why most ant websites recommend you cover the sides of the glass with a dark material when not viewing.
