Today was a big local holiday in Taiwan and by accident we stumbled upon a parade of gods, banners and musicians circling a neighborhood. There were about 20 or 30 of these bands, each from a different temple but all in the same parade. The weird thing was that will all of the cars covered in plastic, the giant protective spirit puppets, the hundreds of oboists, percussionists and musicians (no slight intended) we were the only people who stopped to watch. I think it was because this is a religious action of prayer, not necessarily a public party. Interesting as all get out for us though. Incredibly loud. To get the full effect you'd have to hook your computer to your speaker system and turn the volume all the way up. Each group also had cool matching hats. Mostly fedoras.
