United Nations, 25 March 2009 - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon briefs on issues discussed during the meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown such as the forthcoming G-20 Summit meeting. He said that it was agreed that we must not allow this crisis to erode the progress we already made towards the Millennium Development Goals. The Secretary-General said that it was noted to stand firm against protectionism, reinvigorate the Doha trade round, the need to support a greening of the global economy, and how to reform global rules and institutions.
U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown comments on issues discussed during the meeting, including the situation in Gaza, Afghanistan, Sudan, comments on upcoming G-20 meeting, says that doing nothing is not an option and that our duty is to help every country.
in Q&A on warning by the governor of the Bank of England that UK Government will get itself too deeply into debt if it spends much more on stimulating economy, he said that targeted action might be needed. He also commented on the participation of King of Saudi Arabia in G-20 Summit and on Sudan's decision to expel 13 international NGOs.
