@Petemonster62 After Long Island, people really lost there interest in nuclear energy. Maybe if they had followed through with their plans we wouldn't be in the mess we're in.

You have a point BIGSLMAN, throughout the '50s & '60s atomic power was predicted to be commonly used in the near future, not only for power generation, but for other industries & transportation like cargo ships & railroads.

@Petemonster62 Well throughout the fifties there was a kind of hype around atomic power and the atom bomb in general. People were not really concerned about the war because the effects of radioactivite were not fully understood by the public. They just loved the bomb.
