Interview with Mende Nazer for Feelgood Theatre Productions' play 'Slave - A Question of Freedom'

The world premiere of "Slave -- A Question of Freedom" opened at the Lowry Theatre, Salford (UK) on 23rd - 27th November 2010. Feelgood Theatre Productions are delighted to have brought Mende's story to the stage and to have worked with Mende and Damien Lewis to ensure that the adaptation of her book "Slave" (Virago Press) helps to give voice to the voiceless and celebrates the unique Nuba culture.

Feelgood worked with Anti Slavery International in delivering workshops in primary and secondary schools and collaborating with the University of Salford on an international conference "Slave: Witnessing the Voice Through Performance & Testimony", 24th November, 2010.

Feelgood then toured this production nationally in September, October and November 2011. Working with the Mende Nazer Foundation we hope to raise sufficient money to build a school in Mende's village. "Only through education can we put an end to the horrors of slavery". Mende Nazer

Such a remarkable, brave woman you are Mende. May God bless you and many others who have and are still enduring the horrific slavery of the modern world. It is so sad to percieve such an oppressive regime occurring in sudan. I pray that God will eradicate the horrors of the world and i know the emancipation of slavery awaits all those who are slaves. I pray that their liberation comes sooner rather than later. WHAT AN AMAZING BOOK!! GOD BLESS MENDE NAZER!!

my dear lord how come is that in possibly i read this book and my heart is broken.little girl is taking away and raped and beating so brutally. i cant understand these people. these monsters in sudan and the great britain beating and take away her humanity. they treat her some kind like an animal beating and even food was garbish. dear lovely mende i will wish you all the best in this world and if is in possibly i was so glad and pround if i can meet you some day. liza

Omg I cry now !! I am from austria and I am just 13 years old and I read this book.It was soo sad it's incredible how people exaggerate with the skin colour.I found Mende in Facebook and I am very happy because I think she has now a good life..

I'm glad she did make it back to Sudan. She did, eventually become a doctor of sorts...a doctor of broken spirits, to be a voice to the voiceless. Bless her very much.
