I see... it was a wartime movie. I wondered why everyone was so nonchalant about bombs scattered throughout their neighborhoods.

@TehNetherlands Well, I don't imagine a railway mine is all that stong; it doesn't take too much to derail a train. Also, they weren't sure the mine was live when they did it.

@LordlyJeremy You're joking, right? Why would they think it's a good idea to smash a live railway mine with a hammer? How could they possibly survive being in close proximity to such an explosion?

A friend of my great-great-grandfather brought home a live railway mine after World War I. They took it to his garage, clamped it to the workbench and hit it with a sledgehammer. It went off with such force as to throw the hammer head straight through the wall of the garage, although no-one was hurt. My great-great-grandfather would go on to serve two terms as Mayor and live to be 88.

I recently ordered up the complete british dramatic series: "Danger: UXB" from NetFlix. The episode "Butterfly Winter" was built around the Ipswich raid where they were first used and viscerally conveyed the terror and havoc they caused. It took days to clean them up. Absolutely monstrous things. A pure terror weapon, specifically designed to kill the innocent.
Not freaked out by the cute little butterfly bomb at all, but really quite worried about what the hell is making his jumper so lumpy !!!

Ah trixie you light up my life - much the same as a butterfly bomb. In regards to the jumper one can only guess - remember it was during the war and no doubt it involved evacuees and tinned spam.
