Obregon was the only real hero of the Revolution. He put down all the waring factions and reinstated control of the federal government. As a general he was brilliant and he never lost a battle. This ranks him higher than Napoleon or George Washington. He should rank with Ghengis Khan, Atilla the Hun, Julius Caesar, Augustan or Trajan. His techniques, like the fox hole or the use of machine guns were later implemented in world war one.

Madero was a Spritualist (ie: Cabalist/crackpot). Carranza was just another politician who sought power above the people and never intended to give land to the poor. Villa was cunning but lacked a long term stragedy. Zapata, brave and admirable as he was, was naive and his ideas would have never worked in any country at anytime.

Mestizos were becoming educated under the Diaz regime. Communists were everywhere, influencing the mind set of Mexican universities. This leftist political trend had begun with Benito Juarez. So revered was Benito Juarez by the Italian anarchists that one leftist couple named the child after him, Benito Mussolini.

Some quick facts: Madero was rich and came from a Jewish Portugese family. Diaz modernized Mexico. The US was heavily involved in Mexican politics. The Germans wanted to gain influence in the Mexican military to offset the French presence therein.
