Over the past few of weeks, I have been having an issue with my female rhino viper, who had her eye get a large swollen lump behind it, along with wart-like protrusions in her skin. And after weeks of asking people with virtually no answer but "I don't know" she sheds and all of the lumps come off with the skin. But now I am faced with a new problem in that now there is a large hole where the lump behind the eye used to be.

  • oO is she still poisonous???

  • Now and forever

  • I dont really know.. But could it be from dry skin or maybe some sort of chemical bacteria in the tank? something you cant find or dont know about?

I give you and your beautiful rhino my wishes. I hope this gets resolved.

  • Thanks. It actually turned out to be a subocular infection. What caused the infection is still unknown, but I have found out how to treat it and the hole has shrunk quite a bit.

  • Shes beautiful :D how much was she and she sounds like XD a real rhino to me But not a snake more like the Real rhino deal

  • I don't know if you still have a problem with this or not, but I was watching Viperkeepers video ST. Louis Zoo Part 3 and he was talking about crypto, do you think this snake could have crypto? Watch the video if you're still looking for a solution!

  • You need better lighting please!

  • Rhino vipers are bad ass bu you never get to much vivid colors from them that's why I prefer the eyelash viper

  • The wart like protrusions sound like uric acid burns from a wet tank environment with high humidity.

I would cut down on the wet conditions and let her dry out

  • I'm no expert by any means, but it sounds like a scale parasite of some kind. DId you ever find out what it was?

  • Shame about her problem but, even so, she is a real beauty. You should give yourself a pat on the back.

  • Good job! It's like getting a pittbull and clipping its tail. Some things in life are just meant to stay the same. She's gorgeous, btw!
