you're only talking 10 to 15 more on torque. Most of there were High per. engine. If you had put any of there engine on the dyno. back in 66 they would be down on HP and torque. the street Hemi was a joke. I have raced hemi back then. 66 396 360 HP., pulled the hemi 2 cars every time Bluegrass dragway lexington ky. Get this motor man 66 gto 389 360 i have pulled street hemi by 2 cars and have it on tape. 12:80 street car that came out of my shop. get this it had 102,000 miles on it. RA V =joke

@kennethrobinson11231 here's 2 more for you
1966 Mopar 440- 480 ft. lbs.
1966 MOpar 426 Hemi- 470 ft lbs.
no contest on the HP, the Buick is way down
-
@kennethrobinson11231 1966 Cadillac 429 CID- 345HP- 480 ft. lbs. torque- then the 1966 Olds 425 CID, 385 HP- 475 ft. lbs. of torque- need more ? I can list just about any make of the Big Three made more torque than a nailhead, you need to get a reality check- typically guys like you think your engine brand liking is the "best"- a BBC or Hemi would eat EVERYTHING in sight, and dominated
the nailhead 425 only had 465 ft. lbs. torque that year, it's final year and best intake/carb combo
-
@kennethrobinson11231 a nail is a neat engine, but it can't compare to other makes- what engine made more torque that year 1966 ? Just about any other Olds, Pontiac, Chevy, Cadillac, Mopar, Ford- you need to look some stuff up
torque ALSO goes up with port size- see my video 455 RA V tunnel port engine, in my uploads videos
it would eat any nailhead for lunch and spit it out

@tunnelportterror No you don't understand. I HAVE 3 RUNNING ENGINE Used the torque, that what it's all about. Your big flowing heads don't start to work untill 6000 rpm. show me one street engine in1966 that made more torque. I have used big head on my 496 chevy. It made 56 MORE HP on oval head. But I guess you drive around town turning 8 or 9000 rpm. Big doesn't always mean better. I'm 64 Done more research and engine work than you might think. you need to come to mechine shop I'll show you .

@kennethrobinson11231 you don't understand engines- I've had THREE nailheads- the ports are so small and twisted, the engine is choked for air- that's why Buick shitcanned the design in 1966, and came out with a new engine design
nailhead ports barely flow 200 cfm, there's small block Chevy heads the flow more
it's all about airflow, and if you drove a car with big heads on it, you'd realize a nailhead is a slug
-
@tunnelportterror You don't understand about buick ports. Big does not always mean better. It's about velocity not size. With the right cam, a nailhead can pull hard up to 6000.

@browneyesvicyim not bad, but not that great either. I had 3 nailheads, (2) were 425 engines, one was a 401, after taking them apart and looking closely at the design- they have a really good bottom end, but the ports in the heads are just way too small. They can't breathe enough to make a lot of HP or rpm. Basically they are small block Chevy size ports on a big 425 CID engine, with a lot of bends in the intake tract, and the exhaust port is bent really badly. I sold all 3 of mine.
-
@smoothie6ft3 the 455 was a completely different engine than the early nailhead
actually the Caddy, Olds, Pontiac engines had more torque than the early nailhead, which is one reason why Buick replaced the nail with a new engine design in 1967
-
I see. I had a 65 and still have a 67 and they were both great. The new engines for 67 and on are really different and more modern by design, but I really like the nailheads, too. Unfortunately, they cost more to rebuild. I am about to get my 401 back for my Skylark GS. The switch-pitch trans. is from that 65 Electra.
468.2 Ft lb's of Torque @ 3600 RPM :-)
