Just got this today in the mail. I ordered size Large for my 55 lb female golden retriever. She pulls when being walked on a regular leash, she is fine on those plastic leashes that zip in and out, but I don't want to walk her in public with one of those. I put this right on her and it was like I had a different dog on the end of the leash. No pulling, tugging, etc. She walked right next to me. It was great!!! She only pawed at it a couple times. I HIGHLY reccommend this product!!!!

I just put this on my 50lbs lab.. She is a terrible dog for the first 30 minutes of every walk we've ever gone on, pulling and not listening...
I put the gentle lead on her, and literally within 2 minutes of our walk (first time use) she was walking beside me and looking at me for direction... Highly recommend thus to anyone with a problem walker.. And I've only used it once

I don't like how hard you have to set the neck piece over the dog's trachea. It's too much pressure on the trachea, IMO. It doesn't collapse it, but it does, most certainly, put pressure on it. (The manufacturer says the #1 common mistake is that users don't tighten the neck piece to the point the user can only fit one finger under it.) It's not intermittent high pressure I'm concerned about, which could be reduced via training, it's constant high pressure and results years down the road.

Hi Elul205770,
I completely understand your concern and I appreciate you asking this question. The proper fitting of a Gentle Leader is extremely important for the safety of the dog as well as the effectiveness of the training.

The neck strap is meant to fit underneath the throat (closer to the larynx), then leads up and is fastened just behind the ears. The nose loop should be fastened so that it is loose enough that the dog can open his mouth to eat, drink or even carry a ball, but not so loose that it slips off of the end of the nose. Since the neck strap is fit into the crevice of the neck, it isn’t pushing back on the trachea, therefore can be tightened as the instructions suggest.

I cannot find records of any cases where the Gentle Leader has caused damage to the trachea, however, if you still have concerns about the fit, I encourage you to have a discussion with your veterinarian before use. Be sure to bring the head collar with all proper instructions to your appointment. A majority of veterinarians actually recommend the Gentle Leader as a no-pull solution because of its humane and effective nature – it’s the most recommended head collar by veterinarians, in fact!
