A fluidyne was made using hardware store plumbing parts. Its base is 1, 1/4" black steel pipe gradually necked down to fit the 3/8" clear hose. Inside the base is coarse steel wool, loosely packed. In between the copper fittings is a steel washer, it has a 1/8" hole. The heat is applied just behind the washer. It takes 15 to 20 min for the oscillation to start, using a small flame. I have to relieve the pressure several times before it will work, the expansion is enough to push the water out of the tube.
