  • He was such a talent. He wrote three big hits back in the 50's. Unfortunately this one was covered by Pat Boone, who made a fortune from the more talented black singer/songwriters of the day. Since I met you baby was covered by a host of popular white singers. Another great IJH tune "Empty arms" was recorded by Joni James. Joe sang these songs the way they were written, with a lot of heart and soul. j.barry7370@yahoo.com

  • This is one of the few "race records" that had a "passable" cover (by Pat Boone) - unlike Pat's laughable version of Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti"....

  • @taylor4660 I have the book. Very good read.Luckily I also have many of the tracks he talks about in one format or another

  • @MrDagwoodBumstead check out Nick Tosches' book The Unsung Heroes of Rock and Roll.

  • @gdl0748 so true.....

  • thanks warner chappel , and you handyman 1714 , greatly appreciated.

  • @recovering16 Love Letters In The Sand was a fair one too

  • I listen to quite many versions of this song, for example Pat or Fats versions but they are not up to the standard of the original IMO. Only Eddie's version though here I am of course biased as almost anything with Ed is good.
