Last week, Cindy managed to capture on film the effects Asian Dust, or "Kousa" (黄砂) as it is known here in Japan, had on her home town of Aizu-Wakamatsu as it passed overhead. Asian Dust is a seasonal meteorological phenomenon which affects much of East Asia. I heard what settled over Shanghai was more severe, but what we got here in Fukushima Prefecture was by no means subtle. Coming from the eastern United States, I find this sort of thing endlessly fascinating.

Seeing this, I suddenly realise that you often see this kind of atmosphere on old Japanese woodblock prints like that of Yoshi Toshi.
I once went snowboarding in Germany where the sky suddenly turned orange, and later on the snow that was coming down actually had a red colour. People there said that red dust from the deserts in Africa elevated with the heat there, and came down with the snow in Europe.
